What Database servers do you offer?

Our iX Fully Managed Dedicated and our Shared Server configurations support the following relational database engines. We can help you select the appropriate database for your application based on desired price/performance and other factors.

• FrontBase
• OpenBase
• Oracle
• Postgres
• MySQL

Naturally, customers with Self-Managed Dedicated Servers may run any database they like.

What type of servers do you use?

We use modern, high-performance, multi-processor servers including:

• Apple XServe (PowerPC) running Mac OS X Server
• Sun (64-bit SPARC) systems running Solaris
• Dell (Intel) rack-mount systems running Linux

All Shared Server configurations are hosted on Mac OS X Server / XServer systems.

What if I need a hosting service that isn't described on your web site?

We can provide all manner of UNIX based hosting services. If the hosting service you need isn't mentioned on our web site, call us and we'll see if we can provide it with the same robust and scalable foundation as the other services we do mention.

What if my database is Microsoft SQLServer?

The "bad" news first:
We don't provide NT based servers and do not host applications with SQL Server.

Now, the "good" news:
WebObjects applications are very nearly database independent. If your WebObjects application was developed with a SQL Server back-end, it can be deployed on a robust UNIX-hosted database like Oracle, FrontBase or OpenBase with modest effort. We are able to help you deploy your application to a robust and scalable production hosting environment.

Why don't you offer FTP access to shared hosting sites?

Some of the original internet protocols, including Telnet and FTP, are fundamentally insecure, due to design flaws in the protocol itself. In the case of Telnet and FTP, the protocols require that user names and passwords be exchanged between the client and server in "plain text". We use modern protocols including ssh and scp which provide for encrypted transport of user names, passwords, and data so that your sites can be managed securely.

Do you offer VPN access?

VPN access is currently available to customers with Self-Managed Dedicated Server configurations.
